Mission for Life

What's your mission? What's god called you to in this life? I've been thinking and asking those questions a lot in my own life lately as I've been working through some life focus questions. You know when you try to focus yourself so that what you do and who you feel you are supposed to be line up.

As I've been thinking it through I've been wanting to ask that question of you? Well actually I want to ask most everyone I see lately.

So What is your mission? What's god calling you to in this life?

Mediocrity

Seth Godin has a great post, what else is new right, regarding mediocrity.

Here's an excerpt

There's a myth that all you need to do is outline your vision and prove it's right—then, quite suddenly, people will line up and support you.

In fact, the opposite is true.
There's a word that occurs several times as the post moves on... resistance... resistance... resistance. I've been pondering this post for about 30 minutes now and I encourage you to click below and read his post. The concept behind his words doesn't fall into any one area of life: professional, ministry, family, exercising, personal development. Nope. These ideas will change you if you get it. So... go get it.

Coffee House Tonight

Tonight in downtown Dalton we are running another coffee house.

Lindsey Laney will be opening and then Josh Brooker will be playing a longer set. They are both talented musicians and well worth the trip to the Book Nook.

So if you aren't into music... do you live under a rock? or lack a soul ... I jest... seriously if you aren't into the singer song writer thing bring a deck of cards or a game and get your game on tonight.

See you at 7:30pm.

Those unaware...

How do you spend your time?

Well I'm back from our vacation. It was a little chilly on the Panhandle of Florida and I actually missed my dog like crazy but it was a great time to reconnect with Joylene and to just be for 7 days.

One thought that would rise to the surface as I was "being" was Time Management and how I use my time during the weeks when I'm home doing ministry. I get asked this questions a lot by others... many naively believing I just sit around and play Xbox with college students. So how do I spend my time...

I spend a good portion of it learning. I learn prior to teaching at One, I learn prior to teaching my Monday Night Guys Small Group, and lately I'm learning about fund raising/friend raising as well as learning to use Gimp and CSS style sheets for Wordpress as a CMS (tech stuff for those readers that are unaware).

I spend another good amount of time sitting across or next to another person. This falls into three basic categories: Partners in Ministry, Leadership, and Mentorees. I spend perhaps 20 plus hours a week sitting across from a potential ministry partner raising support and casting vision, casting vision and getting on the same page with co-leaders and team members, and finally the largest portion of this time is spent pouring myself into the lives of young adults (people I'm mentoring).

Those two take up most of my time however I also find myself: event planning, doing admin tasks, I take prayer days once a month, and I do a little coaching.

I find myself wishing there was 36 hours in a day.

How do you spend your time?

Vaction

For those keeping up and wondering... I've been out of town and away from a steady internet connection -- I wouldn't be blogging on vacation anyway.

I'll get back in the hang of things once I return around the first of March.

Investing in Yourself

There's a helpful post on the Simple Dollar's blog from earlier this week on the importance of investing in yourself. Anyone, but particularly twentysomethings, should read the post as it has some very helpful points in it.

Here's his list of ways to invest in yourself:

  • Education
  • Specialized Skills
  • Appearance
  • Therapy
  • Feeling Good
I would add to the list that the following: find a mentor, become a mentor, focus on your relationship with God.

What are some other ways you can think of that would be important or are important toward investing in ourselves?
